Position Description
The IT System Administrator supports the organization by monitoring, managing, and improving IT infrastructure and backend systems. The role evaluates, modifies, and implements systems as needed to maintain reliability and scalability as organizational needs evolve. This position requires collaboration, effective prioritization of tasks and projects, and analytical problem-solving. The IT System Administrator reports to the Director of Information Technology and works from the corporate office in Sykesville, Maryland, with a partial work-from-home schedule that is subject to change at the employer’s discretion.
Major Duties and Job Responsibilities
- Administer the organization’s Microsoft, Google, VoIP, and other technology environments.
- Interact with vendors where appropriate to work collaboratively on projects or to resolve system issues.
- Identify and participate in projects to improve the environment on an ongoing basis.
- Ensure that infrastructure and backend systems follow established operational best practices and security protocols.
- Plan and lead system refreshes and upgrades under the oversight of the Director of Information Technology and in collaboration with required internal and external resources.
Documentation
- Create technical documentation and, where appropriate, training documentation to support the environment and end users.
- Conduct and document root cause analyses when recurrent or major issues occur.
- Follow and document technical change-management protocols, including escalation to the change advisory board defined by Nexion IT Leadership.
Technical Monitoring
- Ensure that storage, archive, backup and recovery procedures are functioning correctly.
- Maintain the ongoing reliability, performance and support of the infrastructure. This includes monitoring operating environments, responding to incidents, and planning for growth.
- Prevent and remediate security incidents, unauthorized activity, malware infections, and potential security vulnerabilities.
- Serve as an escalation point for the service desk and other technical resources by consistently reviewing and responding to higher-level incident tickets and service requests.
- Perform other duties of a similar nature or level.
Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft technologies, including Microsoft 365, PowerShell, SharePoint, Teams, Microsoft Forms, Power Automate, Endpoint Manager/Intune, Defender for Office 365, and Defender for Endpoint.
- Experience administering Google, NinjaOne, and other MDM environments.
- Experience managing Windows 10 or later, iOS, and ChromeOS.
- Experience in managing VoIP systems.
- Self-motivated and self-directed, with the ability to prioritize and execute tasks effectively.
- Ability to work well independently and in a team-oriented environment depending on the project requirements.
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent; degree in the field of computer science desirable.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of relevant work experience.
- Preferred Certifications: Microsoft Enterprise Administrator Expert

Compensation: $75,000 per year
