About the role
Position Summary
The Salvation Army Northern Division Anoka County 360 Life Center, located in Blaine, MN, provides holistic, person-centered services to individuals and families. Services include basic needs assistance, housing support, case management, spiritual support, and connections to community resources.
The Social Services Assistant supports the day-to-day delivery of social services by responding to inquiries, assisting participants, completing administrative tasks, and supporting programs and events. The Assistant works collaboratively with participants, staff, volunteers, and community partners to help connect individuals and families with appropriate Salvation Army and community resources.
$17.23 to $21.54 per hour, 32 hours per week

Essential Functions (approximate time spent)
- Information & Resource Assistance (40%): Respond to phone, email, and in-person inquiries; provide information about available services and resources; and connect or refer individuals to appropriate staff and community resources.
- Participant Assistance (20%): Assist participants with forms and other paperwork; provide information about available programs, services, and events; and support participants in accessing appropriate resources.
- Program & Volunteer Support (20%): Support day-to-day social services programs, including food shelf operations and senior nutrition initiatives; assist with program activities, supplies, and resources; and support volunteer scheduling and coordination.
- Administrative Support (15%): Provide administrative and clerical support, including data entry, filing, scheduling, record maintenance, and other general office functions.
- Seasonal Programs & Organizational Support (5%): Support seasonal programs, special events, and other Salvation Army activities, including Toy Shop and local community programs.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous experience in social services, clerical, administrative, or related support work required.
- Must pass required background checks.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to meet The Salvation Army’s Motor Vehicle Record requirements preferred.

- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Maintains confidentiality and demonstrates integrity and professionalism.
- Ability to work effectively with participants, staff, volunteers, and community partners, including individuals experiencing crisis or instability.
- Proficient with PC, Microsoft Office, databases, and standard office equipment.
Working Conditions
- Primarily sedentary work involving periods of sitting and computer use, with regular movement associated with participant and program support.
- Professional social services environment with regular interaction with participants, staff, volunteers, and community partners.
- Site-based position with standard business hours and occasional evenings and weekends based on program needs; not eligible for a hybrid or remote work arrangement.
- Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively.
- Occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- None.
Driving/Travel Requirements
- May occasionally drive an agency vehicle or use other reliable transportation to support program and organizational needs.
