About the role
You will serve as a Park Ranger (Wilderness Volunteer Coordinator) Seasonal National Park Service . The typical seasonal entry-on-duty is April-May but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Anticipated Entry on Duty: April 2027.
Serves as (Volunteer-In-Parks) VIP initial contact point and supervisor of wilderness volunteers, river volunteers, preventative search and rescue volunteers (PSAR), and bike volunteers. Serves as a contact for the organization and in coordinating with volunteers and partners on the volunteer program administrative requirements. Schedules and trains volunteers and provides technical support and training for wilderness and river related projects. Leads field work for certain projects and coordinates with other work units to aid projects park wide. Performs standard and non-standard administrative support, clerical assignments, field leadership of certain wilderness projects, field patrols to monitor resources and develop projects, and resolution of problems in support of a wilderness/backcountry volunteer program. Physical Demands: The job will have moderate to high physical exertion when working with volunteers and providing field support to volunteer activities and projects. Duties require frequent trips by car to various locations in the park and community. The job requires hiking on or off trail in a variety of terrain in order to check on volunteer work, or to assist with large park resource restoration events or gatherings. The job requires carrying and the use of hand tools to remote job sites to support and complete tasks, and the frequent bending down to pick noxious weeds or other manual labor. Occasionally there will be a requirement to backpack to distant areas in Glacier's wilderness to perform project work and supervision. The job requires patrolling along river corridors on day and overnight patrols, rowing through class 3 rapids. Lifting rafts and carrying heavy backpacks will be required. The ability to patrol on bicycle on the Going to the Sun Road with a few thousand feet of elevation gain to supervise bike volunteers is required. Work Environment: The work environment normally involves everyday risks or discomforts, which require normal safety precautions typical of places such as offices, meeting and training rooms, and vehicles. Work is mostly during normal business hours, but evening and weekend work will be required during the summer season to support volunteer activities. Heat and cold extremes will be common during patrol functions. Glacier's environment provides risks associated with extreme weather events, swift water, snow and ice, wild animals, and exposures in mountainous terrain.
Must be a U.S. Citizen or National. Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication. Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service. A uniform allowance will be provided. You may be required to travel overnight away from home occassionally. You must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program. You must be at least 18 years of age or older to operate government vehicles. You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work.

Transcripts must include your name, school name, grades, credit hours earned, major(s), grade point average or class ranking, and date the degree was conferred, if applicable. A typed list of courses, grades, semester/quarter hours, GPA, etc. will not be accepted. Non-submission may result in being rated not qualified for the position. Unofficial transcripts are acceptable, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.
