The Specialty Care Outpatient Staff Registered Nurse (RN) is is a clinical expert who uses advanced specialized knowledge and judgement for delivery of high quality and evidence based care to patients and their families.

The Specialty Care Outpatient Staff Registered Nurse (RN) provides a full range of services emphasizing quality, timeliness, and the advancement of the Veterans Affairs mission. The RN duties include but are not limited to: Ability to formulate a plan of care based on nursing assessments and Veteran goals of care. Delegates elements of care to the appropriate individual based upon assessed needs. Administers medications and procedures per established policies and guidelines. Assists in directing the provision of nursing education, orientation and competencies. Evaluates practice in an ongoing process, based on evidence. Provides professional nursing perspective in discussions with the interdisciplinary team. Shares educational findings, experiences and ideas with peers. Questions clinical practices for the purpose of providing evidence-based care. Serves an advocate for patients, families, caregivers and staff, improving outcomes for the immediate practice setting.
