This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This is a vacancy for either a Lock and Dam Repairer Helper WG-5318-05 target 08 or a Lock and Dam Repairer, WG-5318-08 target 10, in the Maintenance Section located in Peoria, IL. Perform general maintenance and repair tasks on lock and dam equipment machinery and structures located at lock and dam sites along the Illinois Waterway.
Perform more complex phases of maintenance and repair work such as, welding, burning, pipe fitting, concrete removal and placement, industrial painting and sandblasting, crane rigging, deckhand duties etc.
Reconstruct lock gates, dam gates, filling/emptying valves and other related mechanical components by use of welding machines, oxy/acetylene torches, pneumatic tools etc.
Rig materials safely for lifting by cranes, hoists or other handling equipment.
Follow written and oral instructions in accordance with safety procedures and regulations.
Removal and replacement of concrete components and structures.
