Process Technician I - Night Shift
About the role
SUMMARY: The Process Technician I is responsible for the safe and proper operation of plant processes including field monitoring of equipment, sample collection and analysis, minor maintenance, and housekeeping in their assigned area of the facility. This role provides support for other Operators and Lab Staff to ensure operational standards are met.
RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may be assigned at management’s discretion.
- Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and all safety, environmental, health, and quality requirements; conduct annual SOP reviews, recommend or implement updates, and promptly report hazards, incidents, and concerns.
- Operate process controls and equipment within required parameters; collect samples, interpret laboratory results, implement directed corrective actions, and troubleshoot issues, escalating complex or unresolved conditions to supervision.
- Monitor equipment condition and process performance, identify deficiencies, and coordinate corrective actions to maintain reliable operation, production, and product quality.
- Maintain accurate operating records, logs, sampling documentation, permit records, and other required activity records.
- Participate in equipment and process start-ups, shutdowns, turnaround maintenance, equipment projects, and other assigned special projects in accordance with established procedures.
- Prepare work orders and coordinate routine repairs, preventive maintenance, external contractors, and internal teams to support equipment reliability and operational readiness.
- Issue and maintain Safe Work Permits and applicable special permits for work performed within the assigned area.
- Conduct thorough shift turnover by communicating equipment status, abnormal conditions, and work in progress to the incoming operator.
- Successfully complete the Process Technician training and qualification program within Company-established timeframes and become qualified in at least one process area.
- Participate in emergency response drills and serve on the emergency response team as assigned.

- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Refinery experience preferred
- Ability to learn and apply process parameters and control system functions while maximizing plant production yields.
- Capable of following detailed procedures utilizing complex data and responding to off-normal process conditions
- Ability to maintain focus, respond to alarms, and changing conditions to complete tasked as assigned.
- Comfortable using computer-based control systems and interpreting data trends
- Ability to read, interpret, and act on work orders, procedures, and technical documents
- Willingness and ability to learn and operate multiple plant process areas
- Complete necessary training to become HAZWOPER certified.
- Attend High Angle and confined space rescue as scheduled.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: This position is primarily operational and requires significant physical activity. The role involves frequent walking, standing, and stair climbing, along with lifting and carrying items weighing up to 50 lbs. Employees will regularly perform pushing, pulling, bending, stooping, kneeling, and climbing. Work is often conducted in outdoor environments and variable weather conditions, with exposure to elements such as heat, cold, and moisture. Adequate visual acuity for reading and monitoring equipment, as well as effective communication skills for verbal and written interactions, are essential. Employees must be able to wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE) for their work areas.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work environment is based on assigned units of a manufacturing plant, with frequent mobility through all areas of production. This position will be exposed to all outside climate conditions. The noise level varies widely within different areas of production.
NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE: Thursday to Wednesday, 12-hour shifts. Day shift: 6 AM to 6 PM. Night shift: 6 PM to 6 AM. Designated on-call shifts, and changes in schedule will be required as operational need dictates.
