Position Summary
The Associate Vice President of Perioperative Services provides strategic and operational leadership for perioperative services across Marshall Health Network (MHN), with a primary focus on ambulatory surgery. Reporting to the Vice President of Perioperative Services, this position works closely with physicians, executive leadership, hospital leaders, and staff to support high-quality patient care, operational performance, and the continued growth and integration of perioperative services across MHN.
The Associate Vice President supports the development and implementation of system-wide strategies, promotes consistent standards and practices, and helps ensure perioperative services meet clinical, financial, operational, and patient experience goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic and operational leadership for perioperative services across MHN.
- Support an integrated approach to preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative services throughout the health system.
- Partner with physicians, medical staff, executive leadership, and hospital leadership to establish and achieve service line goals.
- Support the development and implementation of annual and multi-year strategic, financial, operational, and clinical goals.
- Identify opportunities for service line growth, improved access, quality outcomes, and patient experience.
- Monitor performance metrics related to quality, patient experience, access, operations, finance, and overall service line performance.
- Support performance improvement initiatives and the use of evidence-based practices across MHN.
- Promote consistency in clinical and administrative practices across perioperative locations.
- Support physician engagement and integration in service line planning and decision-making.
- Manage and monitor the integrated expense budget and staffing resources for areas of responsibility.
- Analyze operational and financial information to identify opportunities for cost-effective care and system-wide standardization.
- Evaluate technology, equipment, and innovation opportunities and develop plans to support the continued advancement of perioperative services.
- Support research, academic initiatives, and grant opportunities in collaboration with MHN and Foundation leadership.
- Ensure appropriate data collection, reporting, regulatory compliance, and performance monitoring.
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with MHN senior leadership, physicians, hospital leaders, and other key stakeholders.
- Support and develop perioperative leaders in establishing and achieving goals and maintaining compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and standards.
- Participate in organization, hospital, medical staff, and other committees and task forces as assigned.
- Stay current on healthcare regulations, industry trends, and developments affecting perioperative services.
- Promote a culture of collaboration, accountability, communication, staff engagement, and patient-focused service.
- Support compliance with Joint Commission and governing board standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Leadership Responsibilities
The Associate Vice President provides leadership and oversight for Surgical Services Directors and leadership, the MHN Preoperative Manager, system Pre-Admission Testing Managers, Post-Anesthesia Recovery Unit Managers, Phase II Recovery, and Acute Endoscopy Managers in collaboration with the Vice President of Nursing and Patient Services.
Education
- Master’s degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or a related field preferred.
Experience
- Minimum of 10 years of acute care experience with a focus on perioperative services.
- Demonstrated leadership and management experience.
- Experience working collaboratively with physicians, executives, clinical leaders, and other stakeholders.
- Experience within a multi-site health system and/or academic healthcare environment preferred.
- Knowledge of healthcare strategy, operations, finance, and physician relations.

About the Position
This position reports to the Vice President of Perioperative Services and works collaboratively with MHN executive leadership, physicians, hospital leadership, and perioperative teams throughout the health system.
The successful candidate will bring a combination of perioperative expertise, strategic leadership, operational experience, and the ability to build strong relationships across a complex, multi-site healthcare organization.
