JOB OVERVIEW:


Under the supervision of a Container Operations Manager, the Operations Administrative Supervisor Planner performs a variety of administrative duties related to container handling operations, customer service, payroll, and employee-related matters. JOB DUTIES:

  • Acts as the contact between customers and Georgia Ports Authority Management, and GPA subordinates and peers. Customers communicate directly to the Operations Administrative Supervisor Planner for all assistance regarding: special service orders (premounts, demounts, transfers, etc.), gate and live-lift services, vessels, governments services, intermodal operations, billing, and testing of new operating systems.
  • Serves as the primary point of contact for all customer issues related to intermodal shipments at GPA. Proactively communicate, both internally and externally, consistent and timely information regarding the identification and resolution of service issues.
  • Supervises daily operations to achieve service metric goals set forth by management, including but not limited to: overall yard moves and moves per hour, overall lifts and lifts per hour, and overall shipment dwell of < 24 hours.
  • Enters orders into computer system, supervises and verifies orders are complete in NAVIS before processing; communicates orders to yard operators using both verbal and system communication; processes service orders for billing submission for all work completed.
  • Supervises and plans the movement of containers throughout Garden City Terminal, including but not limited to railcar loading and unloading, drayage, and workload within the service area(s) assigned.
  • Performs a variety of clerical duties such as filing, inventory, copying, answering telephone inquiries, typing, updating reports, and reception work as required. Performs all manual job functions.
  • Adjusts computer inventory to reflect on-port changes, such as physical transfer, transfer of ownership, etc. Reports and corrects discrepancies between physical and computer inventory.
  • Works with the GPA ADP payroll system in processing employee time and benefits to ensure payment is processed accurately.
  • Tracks production metrics and reports to management as required.
  • Assists management with administrative performance evaluations and required coaching/counseling.
  • Willing and capable of actively training other administrative personnel and customers in a variety of operational settings.
  • Champions the adoption of all GPA automated systems to maximize operations efficiency and provide an excellent customer experience.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Typing ability required; some training in general office procedures necessary.
  • Personal computer skills desired.
  • Ability to handle fast pace/stress daily.
  • Ability to quickly analyze problems takes initiative and gives direction.
  • Ability to handle a variety of clerical functions.
  • Knowledge of the shipping industry desired.
  • Must be able to communicate professionally with customers and employees.
  • Ability to work shift work, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required.
  • Ability to learn and operate the GPA computer systems, as well as new technologies or other operating systems that may be required.
  • The ability to interact and communicate effectively and professionally with the GPA staff on all levels, including management and coworkers.

Experience

  • Familiarity with operations of shipping industry also Preferred

Education

  • Required High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Preferred Four year college degree in business or related field highly

Licenses & Certifications

  • TWIC - Transportation Worker Identification Credential Required Upon Hire
  • Driver's License - Valid state driver's license Required Upon Hire
