TAG (Tooling Analysis Group) Tooling Support Specialist
About the role
The Tooling Support Specialist within the Tooling Analysis Group (TAG) is responsible for providing technical and analytical support for tooling investments, supplier tooling requests, and manufacturing feasibility evaluations. The specialist reviews tooling related to molds, stamping dies, die-cast tools, fixtures, gages, racks, secondary equipment, and special machines to ensure technical necessity, cost accuracy, and timing feasibility.
This position works closely with Purchasing, Supplier Quality, Engineering, Manufacturing, and suppliers to support, production, refurbishment activities, and capacity expansions. The Tooling Support Specialist performs cost and timing analysis, identifies improvement opportunities, supports root cause investigations, and provides recommendations that drive informed business decisions.
The role requires expertise in tooling design and manufacturing processes, dimensional validation, GD&T, and tooling feasibility, along with strong project management, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills. The specialist will also support supplier negotiations, evaluate tooling cost proposals, and present technical recommendations to management when required.
Job responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Provide technical and analytical feasibility expertise to review various types of tooling consisting of all types of Molds, Stamping Dies, Die Cast Tools, Secondary Equipment / Special Machines / Tools, End of Arm Tooling, Cooling and Nesting Racks, Checking Fixtures and Gages.
- Proficient interpersonal skills and the ability to work within cross-functional teams.
- Proven ability to manage multiple assignments and project related tasks.
- Proficient in performing cost and timing analysis
- Identify opportunities for cost optimization while maintaining product quality and manufacturing requirements.
Basic Qualifications:
- Mechanical or Technical degree and/or High School diploma/GED and 5 plus years working in the design/build of various types of Molds, Dies, Secondary’s, Racks, Fixture’s, and Gage’s.
- Strong understanding of tooling design and manufacturing processes.
- Root cause analysis with a creative problem-solving abilities and results orientated.
- Various types of Tool / Gage design and build experience
- Knowledgeable in GD&T
- Ability to View/Interpret Mold-Flow analysis
- Understanding functionality of Hot Runner Manifold Systems
- Expertise to identify tool modifications required to dimensionally manufacture a correct and functional part
- Proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite Software
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a mechanical or technical field
- Production manufacturing experience of plastic, steel, and cast parts.
- Knowledge of CAD Software, and Team Center
- Experience in negotiating tool costs.

- Self-motivated / sense of ownership

- Some overtime/weekend hours required
- Ability to travel as required
- Strong project management skills
- Strong communication, analytical and negotiation skills
- Experience presenting to senior management
- Knowledge in dimensional validation
