Recreation Specialist

About the position: This position is Non-appropriated Fund (NAF) and will be assigned to the Outdoor Recreation on Nellis AFB. Regular Full Time employees are guaranteed 35 hours per week but may work up to 40 Hours per week. This position does offer benefits. Requires frequent standing, stooping, bending, stretching, and the ability to frequently lift and carry items weighing up to 75 pounds.

Develops, organizes, and implements seasonal outdoor programs to include, but not limited to a variety of land and water-related activities and services (e.g., aquatics, camping, backpacking, nature hikes, canoeing, rafting, rock climbing, bicycling, skiing, etc.). Plans and coordinates activities within the limitations of available facilities, equipment, staff, and financial resources. Schedules and publicizes outdoor recreation activities. Arranges for off-base equipment, transportation, supplies, and services needed to accomplish scheduled activities. Establishes contact with various off-base agencies. Solicits volunteers and individual activity orientation and training. Instructs participants in the activity for which the employee has technical expertise. Gathers, monitors, and maintains data to complete reports, respond to inquiries and assists others. Assists with periodic program plans and quarterly and annual budget requirements. Ensures safety orientation is provided to paid and volunteer staff and participants regarding specific activities. Determines program needs and objectives through the use of patron requests, surveys, and current trends. Evaluates the effectiveness of ongoing activities and adapts various programs in accordance with findings. Plans and organizes special events as assigned to the Outdoor Recreation Director. Provides information and advises patrons of available recreation resources and opportunities in the area. May be required to act as trip/tour guide, supervise volunteers and perform personally, a broad variety of general clerical and administrative functions. May become involved in supply functions such as receipt, storage, issue, and maintenance. Position is a Position of Trust.
