About the role
You will serve as a Park Ranger Seasonal for Glacier National Park and Canyonlands National Park. The typical seasonal entry-on-duty is April-May but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Anticipated Entry on Duty: March-April 2027. Present informal and formal talks, guided tours to all types of audiences. Respond to visitor's inquiries for information. Provides a wide range of services to visitors including assistance with lost articles, car trouble and first aid. Provides answers to recurring questions. Use multimedia (such as, audio-visual equipment, computer software) to create informational presentations or products. Performs day-to-day patrol operations to facilitate visitor understanding and enjoyment and to induce behavior that complies with park regulations. Negotiate with individuals or organizations to resolve conflicts, disputes or grievances. Perform emergency services to ill and injured visitors in a variety of settings. Assists with trip itinerary planning using the "Preventative Search and Rescue" concepts in both front country and back country. Duties may also include collecting funds, safe-guarding and reconciling funds and accountable stock. Serves as a member of an in-Park Incident Management Team to be called upon to provide emergency services and issues backcountry use permits in accordance with the park's management plan. Provides medical treatment - Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Certification or higher certification is required. This is a drug tested position. GLAC- Park Ranger (Backcountry), GS-05 - Patrols backcountry areas, contacts visitors, completed various resource management inventories/reports and assists with various backcountry, wilderness, and protection related park projects. Experience includes completing multi-day backpacking trips of three nights or longer in remote wilderness environments. I can carry a 50-pound backpack over rugged terrain for distances exceeding 15 miles per day, with elevation gains of up to 6,000 feet. I possess wilderness survival and risk-management skills necessary to take care of myself and others in an austere and remote environment. This experience is supported and documented in my resume. CANY- Park Ranger, GS-05 - Serves as a member of an in-Park Incident Management Team to be called upon to provide emergency services and performs solo backcountry patrols as an EMT, focusing on visitor and resource protection. Issues backcountry permits and fee collection. This is a drug tested position. This position has a split season -EOD: March to June AND late August to late November. Park Ranger(Backcountry), GS-07 - Serves as a member of an in-Park Incident Management Team to be called upon to provide emergency services and performs solo backcountry patrols, focusing on visitor and resource protection. Issues backcountry permits and fee collection. This is a drug tested position. Physical Demands: The work requires regular and recurring physical exertion such as long periods of standing, walking, driving, bending, and the incumbent must have the ability to routinely carry backpacks of up to 50 pounds in steep terrain and in adverse weather conditions. Work Environment: The work is performed in settings in which there is a regular and recurring exposure to moderate discomforts and unpleasantness, e.g. high or low temperatures, confined spaces, or adverse weather.

Pre-employment and random drug testing are required. You will not be appointed to the position if a verified positive drug test is received. You are required to wear a uniform and comply with uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided. You must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program. You must be at least 18 years of age or older to operate government vehicles. You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work.

Transcripts must include your name, school name, grades, credit hours earned, major(s), grade point average or class ranking, and date the degree was conferred, if applicable. Unofficial transcripts are acceptable, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work. Foreign Education: To receive credit for education completed outside the United States, you must show proof that the education has been submitted to a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign educational credentials and such education has been deemed at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education programs.
