About the role
About the company
Our client is a law firm.
The role
Raydar is recruiting for this role on behalf of our client. Take charge of a corporate transactional practice, managing deals from start to finish and serving as the lead contact for clients. The position also includes setting the direction of the practice, partnering with colleagues across disciplines and coaching less experienced lawyers.
What you'll do
- Run and personally drive equity investment and acquisition deals from the first conversation through closing.
- Serve as the main point of contact for sophisticated clients and counterparties.
- Influence how the practice is organized, what it offers and where it grows over time.
- Work alongside lawyers from other disciplines on tailored, strategic engagements.
- Guide and mentor junior lawyers, including a recently hired associate.
Requirements
What we're looking for
- Roughly 10 to 15 or more years handling transactions at a mid-sized or large law firm, though not necessarily in a current big law role.
- Strong specialization in venture, private equity or mergers and acquisitions, with a track record of leading custom deals as opposed to broad generalist work.
- A J.D. and active membership in a U.S. state bar, with New York preferred.
- Confidence taking a deal across the finish line on your own with minimal oversight.
- Background in custom-structured deals rather than high-volume, template-based work.
- No more than about one year spent in an in-house role.
- A steady career history, typically four or more years at each previous firm.
- A self-directed, entrepreneurial outlook, driven more by building a practice and having a balanced lifestyle than by maximizing pay.
Bonus points
- A few transferable client relationships or a modest book of business.
- Prior work with early-stage founders, family investment groups or newer fund sponsors on company-side matters.
Benefits
Compensation and benefits
- Base salary: USD 250,000 to 400,000 per year
- Equity
Location and work model
- New York, NY, United States (London, United Kingdom also considered)
- Hybrid, 2 days per week in the office
- Full-time
