Post Bac Research Assistant and Course Liaison-Part time
About the role
The Post Bac Research Assistant is responsible for supporting the faculty members by conducting library and archival research, literature reviews, managing bibliographic data, maintaining files, transcribing archival sources and oral history interviews, and proofreading and acting as a liaison between the Great Plains Action Society in Iowa City and a spring Grinnell Course on Intentional Communities.
Library and archival work will be conducted primarily at the University of Iowa Libraries in Iowa City. Occasional work may be conducted at Grinnell College Library in Grinnell and the Herbert Hoover Presidential Library in West Branch Iowa. Research may include a few research day trips with the faculty member to visit Rockford University’s Archives, including the Jane Addams and Hull-House Collection, in Rockford Illinois.
This role will be not more than 18 hours per week, with a total of 975 hours per year.
Essential Responsibilities
Library and Archival Research
- Conduct library, archival, and other research in support of faculty research projects.
- Maintain accurate records of research sources and materials.
Archival Materials Organization and Transcription
- Organize, maintain, catalog, and transcribe photographs, documents, and other materials collected through archival research.
- Develop and maintain organized research files and documentation to support ongoing scholarly work.
- Assist with the preparation and management of research materials for future analysis and use.
Literature Reviews and Research Synthesis
- Conduct literature searches and prepare literature reviews on assigned research topics.
- Review and synthesize relevant scholarly materials.
- Summarize research findings and prepare supporting documentation for faculty research projects.
Community Partnership Liaison and Course Support
- Serve as a liaison between the College and community partners to support student community-engaged learning and service opportunities.
- Coordinate communication, scheduling, and logistical arrangements among faculty, students, and community partner representatives.
- Facilitate student community service activities at the community partner's location(s).
- Support coordination and planning for a Spring 2027 course involving the community partnership, including communication with faculty and community partner representatives regarding course activities and engagement opportunities.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Four-year degree in the humanities with background in philosophy and disability studies.

- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and electronic library and research databases.
Preferred Qualifications
- background in feminist epistemology and care theory.
- Ability to use Zotero and Dropbox.
