Position Summary:

The Maintenance Equipment Operator II operates heavy power-operated equipment used for excavating, grading, construction, grounds maintenance, snow removal, and other maintenance activities. Equipment may include front-end loaders, heavy duty dump trucks, snowplows, sanders, sweepers, tractor-drawn mowers, and other specialized equipment.

This position also performs routine operator-level maintenance, maintains vehicle and equipment records, assists with grounds upkeep, and performs other duties as assigned.

This is an Emergency Personnel position. The employee is expected to report to work during certain Governor-declared emergencies when only Emergency Personnel are directed to report.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Operate heavy equipment such as front-end loaders, and catch basin machines for construction, maintenance, and repair activities.
  • Operate heavy dump trucks, snowplows, sanders, sweepers, tractor-drawn & zero turn mowers, and similar equipment to maintain roads and grounds.
  • Perform routine operator-level maintenance, including lubricating, fueling, cleaning, checking tire pressure, and monitoring battery, oil, water, and coolant levels.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose equipment using applicable technical and mechanical knowledge.
  • Maintain accurate records and prepare reports related to vehicle & equipment use, mileage & vehicle inspection, destinations, accidents, fuel, repairs, equipment inspection sheets, and other operating expenses.
  • Perform grounds maintenance, including lawn mowing, parking lot and driveway maintenance, and outdoor and building drainage maintenance.
  • Operate specialized equipment as assigned, which may include under bridge inspection units, large rollers and loaders, and basket trucks.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Entrance Requirements: None.  
Special Requirements:   
I. Possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Commercial  Motor Vehicle Driver's License (CDL).  
II. Based on assignment, possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Class C Equipment Operator's License issued by the Department of Public Safety.
