Position Summary
Arranging and describing law school and law library archival and special collections to make them accessible to internal users, external scholars, and researchers. Surveying, weeding, and rehousing materials using standard archival methods. Creating finding aids for ease of accessing archival and special collection materials.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
40% - Assessment & Arrangement:
- Document provenance of archival materials and, to the extent possible, maintain the original order of materials established by the donor (or per policy);
- Remove duplicates and non-archival materials;
- Identify and refer to the Law Library Director (or designee) items that may be outside the scope of the Law School/Law Library’s collecting policies
20% - Housing and Maintenance:
- Integrate and maintain collections within facilities designated by the Law School/Law Library;
- Maintain collection records including donor agreements, inventories, assessments, and correspondence
25% - Preservation:
- Assess the condition of archival and special collections and suggest appropriate options for long-term preservation;
- Re-house materials using archival-quality acid-free folders, boxes, files, etc.; -may participate in the Law Library’s digital preservation efforts
5% - Promotion:
- May participate in creating displays and publicizing archival or special collections;
- May suggest specific items for digitization and distribution through the Law Library’s website
5% - Supplies & Equipment:
- Advise Law Library Director (or designee) of facility, equipment and supply needs and issues or needs pertinent to specific collections.
5% - Other Duties as assigned
JOB REQUIREMENTS SECTION
Minimum Qualifications
Education – A college degree and a professional certificate or graduate degree; or 10 or more years of work experience in a related field.
Experience - Six months to two years (Equivalent combination of education and employment).
Preferred Qualifications
Strong customer service, management skills, and ability to onboard and train staff.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Must be a good communicator, well-spoken, and calm. Must be a team player with a willingness to perform other duties as assigned. Must regularly communicate with supervisors, colleagues, and subordinates.
Physical Requirements
Job requires repetitively lifting light weight objects where frequent bending or stooping alternates with lighter activities.
Work Environment
Regular exposure to favorable conditions such as those found in a normal office.
Salary/Pay Information
$19 to $24 Per hour.
