Summary: Responsible for overseeing the development, scheduling, coordination, and evaluation of aquatic, multipurpose, and gym programming. Serves as the primary resource for aquatic and gym safety training and certification, adequate staffing and compliance with all aquatic and gym operations while promoting health, wellness, and safety.
Minimum Education Requirements and Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in wellness or management related field is preferred.
High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (G.E.D.) is required.
Valid certification in CPR and First Aid is required within 6 months of employment.
Must obtain Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) certification.
Knowledge and/or experience of the concepts, principles, practices, methods, and techniques of administering an exercise program in a community-wide setting is preferred.
Additional Qualifications and Skills:
Good attendance and punctuality required.
Ability to work independently, as well as in a team setting is required.
Experience developing and implementing aquatic safety and wellness programs.
Experience in training and supervising staff.
Proficiency in using computer software including Microsoft Office, ADP, and related recreation-management software.
Good oral and written communication and customer service skills are required.
Ability to lead various tribal and community providers in physical education instructional techniques.
Basic knowledge of signs and symptoms of overexertion, hypoglycemia, hyperglycemia, heart attack and stroke.
Pre-employment drug testing is mandatory for all Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe safety senstive positions.
Supervisory Duties:
Supervise, train, evaluate, and provide general guidance to the aquatic, multipurpose, and gym staff and other staff as necessary for growth and function of the Wellness Center.
Responsible for ensuring assigned staff utilizes the electronic timekeeping system.
Responsible for the approval of work hours and necessary adjustments to maintain appropriate coverage during all pool, gym, and multipurpose-room hours.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Conduct lifeguard certification and recertification courses in accordance with approved certifying agency standards.
Provide CPR, AED, First Aid, and water safety instruction to staff and community members.
Serve as the Wellness Center's primary instructor for lifeguard certification and recertification courses.
Train, mentor, supervise, and evaluate aquatic, multipurpose, and gym staff.
Oversee locker room operations, processes, and concerns.
Develop annual training plans and maintain records of certifications to ensure compliance including, but not limited to, employee certifications, training records, and certification expiration dates.
Develop and implement emergency action plans, emergency drills, rescue documentation, near-miss reviews, and follow-up for aquatic, multipurpose, and gym space incidents.
Responsible for upholding organizational policies and expectations pertaining to lifeguard/staff ratios.
Collaborating and communicating with other program managers including, but not limited to, the Ball Club Wellness Center Manager, Receptions Manager, Fitness Manager, and Pool Operator/Facility Operator.
Responsible for program calendars, registrations, participant limits, waitlist, cancellations, and coordination with reception staff.
Monitor budgeting, supply requests, purchasing, and equipment replacement recommendations for the aquatic, gym, and multipurpose spaces.
The Programs and Aquatics Manager will have the authority to delay, modify, or close aquatic, gym, or multipurpose programming when staffing, conditions, equipment, weather, or another safety concern creates risk.
Scheduling and supervision of lifeguards, aquatic personnel, gym and multipurpose area staff.
Participate in community outreach, water safety education, and wellness promotion activities.
Attend and or conduct all mandatory meetings and trainings as required.
Maintain confidentiality and professional ethics at all times.
Ability to travel in and out of state as needed.
Understanding and sensitivity to Native American culture.
Adhere to policies governing staff conduct.
All other related duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to demonstrate all lifeguarding and rescue techniques.
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs utilizing proper lifting techniques.
Ability to swim, tread water, and perform water rescues.
Ability to stand, bend, and walk without restriction.
Exposure to infectious and communicable disease is frequent in fitness center environments.
Ability to utilize and endure normal safety precautions typical of various physical activities.
Subject to internal working conditions.
