About the role

Job Summary

92NY seeks an Associate Director, School Engagement in the Arts to join the School Engagement in the Arts (SEA) department, a team dedicated to delivering exceptional arts and humanities education to K to 12 students and their teachers at public schools across New York City.

Reporting to the Director of School Engagement in the Arts, the Associate Director provides key programmatic leadership across the department and works closely with the Director and Executive Director in the planning and implementation of school-based residencies, performances, professional development, and other arts education initiatives.

The Associate Director brings extensive experience working with New York City public schools and managing relationships with school leaders, educators, and Teaching Artists, as well as specific experience in dance and dance education. The position also leads the Young Writers Workshop, including the planning and implementation of the program.

Job Responsibilities Include

  • Work with the Director and Executive Director to develop, implement, and expand arts education programs for New York City public school students in collaboration with programming areas across 92NY.
  • Build and manage strong relationships with school leaders, teachers, and other school partners, including recruitment of new and returning schools.
  • Supervise and manage designated SEA staff, providing guidance, support, and professional development.
  • Recruit, hire, and support Teaching Artists, and provide guidance in navigating school relationships and program delivery.
  • Coordinate the design and development of curricula for school-based residencies and other arts education initiatives, focusing on dance and dance education.
  • Oversee department events and productions, including school day performances, field trips, and other special initiatives and events.
  • Direct the Young Writers Workshop, including program planning, student selection, and program implementation.
  • Assess Teaching Artists, programs, and student experiences to identify strengths and areas for improvement, and recommend refinements to curriculum, program delivery, and Teaching Artist practice.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across 92NY on special projects and initiatives that connect SEA programs and students with the broader institution.
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director and Executive Director.

Experience, Education, & Skills Desired

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Arts, Education, Arts Administration, or related field preferred.
  • Extensive work with New York City public schools and a strong understanding of the NYC public school system.
  • Demonstrated success cultivating and sustaining long term relationships with principals, teachers, school administrators, Teaching Artists, and other key partners.
  • Proven ability managing arts education programs and Teaching Artists in school settings.
  • Strong background in dance education, including developing, managing, teaching, or overseeing dance programs.
  • Experience with writing, literary arts, humanities, or related youth arts education programs.
  • Demonstrated expertise in curriculum development and arts education programming across multiple art forms.
  • Skilled at navigating complex relationships and resolving challenges with diplomacy and sound judgment.
  • Creative and resourceful problem solver who exercises sound judgment and remains poised under pressure.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and prioritization skills.
  • Passion for arts education and creating engaging and inclusive learning experiences for young people.

Work Environment & Requirements

40 hours per week. Typical work schedule will be Monday to Friday, with flexibility required to oversee select evening or weekend programs and events.

Compensation Range

$80,000 - $85,000

The actual compensation offered will be based on a number of factors including, but not limited to the qualifications of the applicant, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.
