Job Type: Full-Time | Union Position – Teamsters Local 70 

Pay: $38.00 per hour 

Schedule: Monday – Friday | 6:00am – 2:30pm | Home Daily 

Lawson Drayage is looking for a CDL Driver/Rigger to join our Hayward team. This position combines commercial driving with hands-on rigging and machinery moving. You will work as part of a team to safely load, transport, unload, set, and relocate customers' machinery and heavy equipment. 

What We're Looking For: Someone who has a valid Class A CDL, is dependable, safety-focused, mechanically inclined, and comfortable with the hands-on rigging and machinery-moving side of the position. This is not strictly a driving role, and candidates should be comfortable working as part of a crew both on and off the truck. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Communicate with dispatch regarding job scope, daily assignments, and job status. 
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of tractors and trailers. 
  • Inspect and prepare loads for safe transportation and relocation. 
  • Determine proper methods for lifting and moving equipment. 
  • Select, prepare, and inspect appropriate rigging equipment. 
  • Load and unload semi-trucks, including properly strapping, tying down, and securing loads. 
  • Set, align, and level heavy machinery and equipment. 
  • Safely work with overhead lifts, hoists, winches, cranes, jacks, rollers, forklifts, and other rigging equipment. 
  • Determine equipment weights and identify centers of gravity for items being lifted. 
  • Move equipment and materials to and from work areas. 
  • Uncrate materials using power tools and wrap, band, and pack equipment as needed. 
  • Assist with jobsite setup, including floor protection and equipment staging. 
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas and return tools and equipment to their appropriate locations. 
  • Communicate professionally with customers and rigging, construction, engineering, and other on-site teams. 
  • Break down and inspect rigging equipment after use. 
  • Inspect equipment and report necessary repairs or remove unsafe equipment from service. 
  • Follow company and applicable safety procedures. 
  • Complete and maintain required safety training. 
  • Maintain professional conduct while working at Lawson and customer locations. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED. 
  • Valid Class A CDL. 
  • DOT medical card or ability to obtain one. 
  • Acceptable motor vehicle record (MVR) and accident history. 
  • Hands-on experience with load tie-down and securement, including ratchet straps, chains, and binders. 
  • Forklift experience and/or ability to become forklift certified. 
  • Knowledge and ability to operate hand tools, power tools, and moving equipment. 
  • Ability to navigate basic computer programs for training, payroll, and other operational functions. 
  • Good work history and demonstrated dependability. 
  • Excellent communication skills. 
  • Ability to problem solve and focus on solutions. 
  • Safety-conscious and self-motivated. 
  • Strong work ethic and ability to work effectively as part of the team. 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Two (2) years of Driver/Rigger/Machinery Mover experience. 
  • Familiarity with OSHA safety standards. 
  • Familiarity with the logistics or machinery-moving industry. 
  • Experience working with rigging equipment, including chains, binders, ratchet straps, forklifts, overhead lifts, jacks, rollers, and hoists. 

Physical Requirements 

  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull a minimum of 50 lbs. 
  • Ability to lift and maneuver heavy equipment. 
  • Ability to frequently bend, stoop, kneel, squat, and twist. 
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions. 
  • Ability to work at heights. 
  • Ability to work in noisy environments. 
  • Ability to perform an active, hands-on role requiring frequent physical movement. 

Compensation & Union Benefits 

Pay:  $38.00 per hour  

This is a union position represented by Teamsters Local 70.
