About the role

The Parts Room Manager will be responsible for managing the inventory of all MRO parts and accessories for the entire plant equipment list.  Will support subordinates to achieve daily goals and directives that also include excellent customer service, excellent attitude and supporting all internal customers.  The Parts Room Manager must have the ability to work in a team environment.      

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  This list is not intended to be all-inclusive and other duties may be assigned.

  • Ability to effectively coordinate and manage subordinates and the activities of the parts room
  • Be able to issue “after hours” PO’s and track accordingly with a structured program to prevent abuse.
  • Ascertains type of part needed; inspects worn, damaged or defective part to determine replacement required or advises mechanic of part needed according to description of malfunction.
  • Discusses use and features of various parts.
  • Reads catalog or computer for replacement part stock number and price.
  • Prepares work orders and/or repair orders properly and send through proper channels.
  • Advises mechanics on substitution or modification of part when replacements are not available.
  • Examines returned part to determine if defective and exchanges part.
  • Prepares paperwork for warranty credit from manufacturer.
  • Marks and stores parts in stockroom according to prearranged system.
  • Receives and fills telephone orders for parts.
  • Understand and be able to teach/train all employees on MP2/M3 functions as well as create reports for simplified management practices.
  • Lead a team on expectations to have a perfect inventory count program; teach inventory cycle counts routinely as a check and balance of the electronic system.
  • Works closely with Director of Purchasing on a day-to-day basis.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: An Associate’s Degree or equivalent from a two year college or technical school desired but not required; or experience in mechanical parts and inventory control or equivalent combination of education and experience.  A self-motivated individual that is able to prioritize and complete critical assignments in a timely manner.  Experience in MP2/M3 is beneficial. 

COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.  Ability to write reports and business correspondence.  Ability to effectively manage time and meet all specified deadlines.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents in the English language such as safety files, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.  Must be able to effectively communicate with maintenance, production and management personnel.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to apply mathematical applications to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY:  Ability to solve practical problems.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to use computers and all standard programs used by the industry and the ability to learn and effectively use any and all other computer programs that are or will be made available. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to move about the facility.  The employee is required to sit and stand; use hands to finer; handle; feel/hold objects; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; speak; hear taste and smell.  The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include:  close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.  This job will require work outdoors loading and unloading equipment.  The noise levels at times will require hearing protection.    

WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts.  The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of electrical shock.  The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. 

NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE: The hours and days of work are established as needed by operations and at the discretion of management and, while generally as shown below, may be changed (increased or decreased) by management as required. 

Hours of Work:  Generally 9/10 or more hours/day as scheduled by management

Days of Work:  Normally Monday-Friday (6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) as scheduled by management and weekends if needed by operations and approved by management.
