About the role

The Clinical Nurse Educator oversees the Salt Lake City VA Health Care System Nurse Program Development, to include the Nurse Competency Program, Nurse Professional Development, and Nursing Excellence Programs. The Registered Nurse (RN) will need strong coordination and oversight of facility-wide educational initiatives, including the Skills and Resource Fair program.

Duties of the position include, but are not limited to: Provide educational instruction and training for nursing staff in clinical and outpatient units. Foundation of instructional design, implementation, and application related to education and training. Execute learning needs assessments, and develop educational training for clinical staff within organization. Assist with the orientation of new employees, evaluate their progress, and develop and implement learning plan for improving identified deficiencies. Support nurse residency programs, including the develop curriculum utilizing strategic learning methodologies such as simulation, lecture case studies and virtual reality. Evaluate current practice, formulate outcomes for groups of patients and/or organizational processes within area of expertise. Collaborate with other Clinical Nurse Educators and interprofessional healthcare teams in the ongoing clinical education activities including in-services, training, competency assessment, and evaluations of both current and new staff nursing skills. Review current nursing literature for new trends and changes based on evidence-based research with the ability to propose practice and documentation revisions based on evaluation of outcomes. Collaborate with leadership and unit managers to identify educational training needs for staff, support activities that foster competence, critical thinking, and decision making. Provide consultation and collaboration through participation within organizational committees. Analyze, interpret, and evaluate data to determine outcomes and changes related to educational programs. Resource to nursing leadership and staff in interpretation and application of VA nursing qualification standards, providing expert guidance on regulatory expectations, documentation requirements, and promotion criteria.
