This position is located in Law Enforcement and Investigations (LEI), Office of the Director, U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Forest Service (FS). Assistant Director leading criminal investigators and managing national oversight for complex investigations and liaison programs across multiple federal judicial districts. Duties listed at the full performance level GS-15.

Provides full scope investigative, training, liaison, homeland security, and physical security support to the LEI Director, ensuring effective national law enforcement oversight and program execution.

Leads, coordinates, and personally conducts complex, high profile criminal investigations of national significance, applying advanced investigative methods and resolving sensitive, controversial issues.

Develops, implements, and revises national LEI policies, procedures, training programs, and enforcement guidance; provides authoritative expertise and represent LEI as Acting Deputy Director when required.

Manages nationwide accountability for LEI weapons, badges, controlled equipment, and classified systems; ensures compliance, prevents misuse, and supports investigations involving employee misconduct or clearance issues.

Provides senior leadership to investigators, sets program priorities, ensures high-quality investigative work, resolves complex operational issues, and upholds Forest Service EEO, civil rights, and organizational standards.

There are no educational requirements for this position. As a condition of employment for accepting this position, you may be required to serve a 1-year supervisory probationary period during which we will evaluate your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest. In determining if your employment advances the public interest, we may consider: your performance and conduct; the needs and interests of the agency; whether your continued employment would advance organizational goals of the agency or the Government; and whether your continued employment would advance the efficiency of the Federal service. Upon completion of your probationary period your employment will be terminated unless you receive certification, in writing, that your continued employment advances the public interest.
