About the role
Description
The Port Engineer will be responsible for overseeing the maintenance, repair, and operation of the inland towing vessels within the company's fleet. This role requires a strong understanding of marine engineering, vessel systems, and regulatory compliance to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the fleet. This individual will play a critical role in ensuring the reliability and performance of our assets.
Requirements
- Oversee the maintenance and repair of inland towing vessels, including engines, propulsion systems, electrical systems, and auxiliary equipment
- Execute established preventive maintenance programs to ensure the reliability and availability of our fleet
- Coordinate and supervise vessel dry-dockings, repairs, and major overhauls to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards
- Manage and track vessel maintenance schedules, work orders, and spare parts inventory to optimize vessel availability and minimize downtime
- Conduct regular inspections of vessels to identify maintenance needs and ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements
- Collaborate with the operations team to address technical issues and provide engineering support for vessel operations
- Review and approve technical specifications for vessel repairs and modifications, ensuring compliance with industry standards and best practices
- Provide technical guidance and support to vessel crews and maintenance staff to ensure safe and reliable vessel operation
- Monitor and analyze vessel performance data to identify opportunities for operational improvements and efficiency gains
- Stay updated on industry developments, regulatory changes, and emerging technologies to recommend and implement best practices within the fleet
- Demonstrates strong technology proficiency, including familiarity with Microsoft Office
- TWIC Card
- Familiarity with Coast Guard and Subchapter M regulations preferred
- Preferred Attributes: Strong communication skills, leadership presence, attention to detail, proactive problem-solving ability and a commitment to continuous improvement towards the goal of zero safety incidents
