Location: Glasgow, HQ (Hybrid)

As Head of Operational Trading within Global Energy Management,you’lllead the team responsible foroptimisingthe short-term route to market for ScottishPower Renewables generation and Customer Business demand. This is a highly influential leadership role that sits at the heart of the UK’s evolving energy system, helping tomaximisethe value of renewable generation while supporting energy security and the transition to Net Zero.
You’llalso play a key role in developing balancing and ancillary services opportunities, managing critical relationships with the National Energy SystemOperatorand influencing regulatory developments thatimpactboth the business and the wider energy market. Leading a team of traders and analysts,you’lldrive innovation, support digital and AI-enabled trading initiatives, and foster a strong culture of compliance, riskmanagementand continuous improvement.
Whatyou’llbe doing
You’lllead all aspects of Operational Trading activities, ensuring ScottishPower’s renewable generation and customer demand portfolios are effectively positioned within short-term electricity markets.You’llidentifyand develop new revenue streams within balancing and ancillary services markets, helping to strengthen the commercial case for future renewable and flexible energy assets while delivering significant value across the portfolio.
You’llwork closely with internal and external stakeholders (globally) to develop commercial opportunities, negotiate complex balancing servicesarrangementsand influence market developments. Andyou’llprovide strategic leadership to the Operational Trading team, driving performance, developingcapabilityand delivering management reporting and insights that support decision-making at senior leadership level.
Whatyou’llbring
We’relooking for a commercially minded leader withsignificant experiencemanaging high-performing teams and delivering ambitious businessobjectiveswithin a competitive environment.
- Strong knowledge of UK power markets, energy economics, balancingmechanismsand ancillary services markets.
- A track recordof delivering commercial value, managingbudgetsandidentifyingnew revenue opportunities.
- Experience influencing senior stakeholders and communicating complex concepts clearly at executive level.
- Strong leadershipand peoplemanagement experience.
- An excellent understanding of regulatory obligations and market frameworks within the UK energy sector.
- Degree-level qualification in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience.
- Outstanding analytical,quantitativeand strategic thinking capability.
- Experience working with renewable generation assets, battery storage or flexibility markets, and exposure to digital or AI-enabled trading initiatives would beadvantageous.
