Research Assistant, Medicine, Medical Sciences & Nutrition (IMS334R)
We have an exciting opportunity in the Institute of Medical Science (IMS) for someone with a passion for undertaking challenging research looking to use their skills in chromosome biology to make an impact on the study of cohesin and chromosome structure. You will join the laboratory of Dr Bin Hu to undertake structure-function analysis of cohesin and its regulators.
Job Description
We are seeking candidates with a postgraduate degree in the areas of cell cycle regulation and chromosome biology or relevant experience.
The Research Assistant will work closely within the Aberdeen chromosome biology research groups and interface with colleagues in Molecular and Cell Biology in Oxford to address fundamental questions that underpin our understanding of cohesin function and how this might be exploited in drug discovery. You will provide the biochemical/molecular biological skills and intellectual input to determine the interaction surface of cohesin with its releasing factor Wapl using photo and chemical cross‑linking assays and examine the impact of these interaction sites on cohesin release.
The Research Assistant will be based in the IMS on the University’s Foresterhill site.
Salary will be at the appropriate point on the Grade 5 scale, £33,002 per annum.
