Mechanical Electrical Design Associate
About the role
Are you an experienced M&E or Electrical Engineering professional looking for the opportunity to build and grow a team within an ambitious consultancy?
Would you like to take on a senior leadership role where you can influence business growth, win work and remain involved in technical project delivery?
Salary: £65,000–£100,000 depending on experience and seniority.
Locations: Basingstoke or Manchester preferred. London and Bristol may also be considered. Flexible working arrangements discussed individually.
I am recruiting for an Associate, Associate Director or Director specialising in M&E or Electrical Engineering to join my client's expanding engineering consultancy.
My client is an ambitious, growing business with an established presence in rail and wider infrastructure. Following significant year-on-year growth and the recent launch of its Manchester operation, the business is looking to strengthen its senior M&E capability and develop new opportunities across the UK.
This is an opportunity for someone who wants to make a genuine impact, combining technical leadership and project delivery with business development and the opportunity to build a team.
My client is flexible on the exact level of appointment and is particularly interested in speaking with strong performers who have the ambition and ability to progress into a more senior leadership position.

Strong background in M&E or Electrical Engineering within a design consultancy or design and build environment.
Previous experience delivering rail engineering projects.
Significant technical design and project delivery experience, ideally seven years or more.
Experience leading engineering projects, coordinating teams and managing client relationships.
Ability to contribute to business development, identify opportunities and help secure new work.
Strong understanding of engineering design, technical assurance and multidisciplinary project delivery.
A hands-on approach, with the ability to remain actively involved in engineering rather than focusing solely on programme management.
Previous permanent employment experience and a genuine interest in building a long-term career within the business.
Nice to Have
Experience at Associate, Associate Director or Director level.
A background in electrical building services, rail M&E or wider infrastructure engineering.
Experience within a smaller or medium-sized consultancy, although larger consultancy backgrounds will also be considered.
Previous involvement in growing engineering teams or developing new service offerings.
Established industry relationships and a track record of winning work.
Experience across multiple sectors, including rail, buildings and infrastructure.
Chartered Engineer status or relevant professional accreditation.
Why Join?
My client offers the opportunity to play a key role in a rapidly growing consultancy, influence its future direction and help build an engineering team. There is genuine flexibility around seniority, with long-term progression opportunities for ambitious individuals.
