Pay: £174.71-£240.70 per day, dependent on experience

Tradewind Recruitment is currently recruiting for an English Teacher to join a secondary school in St Helens from January 2027 on a full-time maternity cover basis.

This is a genuine teaching vacancy offering an opportunity for a qualified English specialist to secure a sustained teaching assignment within a secondary school English department.

The school is looking for an enthusiastic and committed English Teacher who can deliver engaging lessons, maintain high expectations and support pupils in developing their reading, writing and analytical skills.

This opportunity would suit an experienced English Teacher or a suitably qualified Early Career Teacher seeking a full-time position from January.

The Role

As an English Teacher, you will be responsible for delivering engaging and appropriately challenging lessons in line with the school's curriculum.

Your responsibilities will include:

Planning and delivering high-quality English Language and Literature lessons

Developing pupils' reading, writing, comprehension and analytical skills

Teaching a range of literary texts and language topics

Supporting pupils with written communication and critical interpretation

Preparing pupils for relevant assessments and examinations

Assessing work and providing constructive feedback

Differentiating lessons to meet varying abilities and learning needs

Maintaining positive classroom behaviour and established routines

Working collaboratively with colleagues in the English department

Supporting continuity of learning throughout the maternity cover assignment

The successful candidate will undertake the planning, preparation, teaching, marking and assessment responsibilities associated with a full-time teaching position.

The Ideal English Teacher

We are particularly interested in candidates who:

Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification

Have strong subject knowledge in English Language and Literature

Have experience teaching English within a secondary school

Can plan engaging and appropriately challenging lessons

Demonstrate effective classroom and behaviour management

Understand the importance of assessment and constructive feedback

Can adapt teaching to support pupils of varying abilities

Have high expectations of pupil achievement and progress

Build positive relationships with pupils and colleagues

Are available full-time from January 2027
