About the role
The Role:
As the Director of Asset Management, you will lead the UK asset management function, overseeing condition, compliance, risk management and programmes of work across a complex portfolio of residential and specialist assets. This role suits a senior professional with a strong surveying foundation who has developed broader leadership experience across asset strategy, programme delivery and stakeholder management. You will operate with a high degree of autonomy, providing clear strategic insight and assurance to senior leadership.
This is a national role with regular travel and structured collaboration across office locations.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership
* Lead and develop the asset management strategy, standards and governance frameworks.
* Provide expert advice to senior leadership on risk, opportunity and long‑term planning.
* Drive best practice across asset management processes, reporting and performance.
Portfolio & Programme Management
* Oversee cyclical, thematic and responsive inspections across the portfolio.
* Direct refurbishment, maintenance and improvement programmes, ensuring quality and value.
* Maintain oversight of statutory, regulatory, lease and health & safety compliance.
* Lead complex, multi‑site and cross‑functional programmes of work across the UK.
Technical & Professional Oversight
* Act as senior technical authority on building pathology, risk and compliance matters.
* Review, produce and sign off condition reports, cost plans, ESG assessments and recommendations.
* Translate technical data into clear, actionable investment and operational decisions.
Stakeholder & Partner Management
* Manage and hold external surveyors, consultants, contractors and advisors to account.
* Work collaboratively with finance, ESG, compliance and transaction teams.
* Build senior‑level relationships that support long‑term asset performance and stewardship.
What We’re Looking For:
* Degree in Building Surveying or a related built‑environment discipline.
* MRICS (or equivalent senior professional standing).
* Significant experience leading asset management across a large, complex property portfolio.
* Strong knowledge of building pathology, construction standards, fire safety and health & safety.
* Proven ability to lead major programmes and manage multiple specialist consultants.
* Experience translating technical outputs into strategic, commercial decision‑making.
* High levels of professional judgement and ability to operate with minimal supervision.
* Excellent communication, reporting and stakeholder‑engagement skills.
* Full UK driving licence with willingness to travel nationally.
Desirable Experience:
* Background within healthcare, supported living or other regulated residential environments.
* Experience implementing ESG and sustainability initiatives at portfolio level.
* Familiarity with regulatory frameworks affecting specialist housing assets
