About the role

About The Role

The Associate will be based at Welshpool (SY21 8SL) and oversee the management and delivery of an Innovate UK awarded KTP between WMG and CastAlum Ltd for the Interconnected Foundry. The role focuses on developing modules in the bespoke web‑based Manufacturing Execution System, CastNet, to capture and store sensor data, enabling AI‑driven decision support for manufacturing process improvements such as predictive maintenance, energy optimisation and waste‑water usage.

Responsibilities

  • Drive the end‑to‑end delivery of the KTP project, coordinating with WMG and CastAlum leadership.
  • Embed new knowledge within CastAlum through training, paired working and documentation.
  • Assess the current state of digital maturity using industry standards such as ISO23247 (or similar) and identify gaps.
  • Select sensors and equipment for data capture and architect data pipelines for analysis, business intelligence and visualisation.
  • Improve the CastNet system to support AI‑driven decision support capabilities for energy, waste‑water usage, predictive maintenance, machining and tool repair.
  • Collaborate with the Innovation & Systems team, production staff and higher management to deliver insights and improvements.

Qualifications

  • Specialist knowledge in digital transformation, MES development and AI‑driven manufacturing analytics.
  • Experience applying industry standards for digital maturity assessment (e.g. ISO23247).
  • Strong data engineering skills: sensor selection, data architecture, pipelines and visualisation using suitable tools.
  • Excellent communication, training and documentation abilities.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic engineering team and deliver results within a partnership framework.
