About the role

An exciting opportunity for a Principal Laser Engineer to join an early-stage photonics start-up developing breakthrough optical computing technology.
This is a highly influential, hands-on position where you will take technical ownership of the semiconductor laser platform, working closely with the founding team to develop next-generation devices for high-performance photonic computing.
The role
Lead the design and simulation of semiconductor lasers, ideally VCSELs
Model optical cavities, DBR structures and laser dynamics
Optimise electrical, thermal and optical device performance
Drive design decisions across epitaxy, device design, fabrication and reliability
Develop simulation workflows and validate models against fabricated devices
Help shape the technical direction of the laser platform and future team
The ideal candidate
PhD or equivalent experience in semiconductor lasers, ideally VCSELs
Strong laser/device modelling and simulation experience
Experience with Lumerical, COMSOL, Sentaurus, PICS3D, Silvaco or similar
Strong Python skills
Experience comparing simulations with real fabricated and characterised devices
Comfortable taking significant technical ownership within an early-stage environment
If you are an experienced semiconductor laser engineer looking for the opportunity to take ownership of a technology from an early stage, please get in touch with Rebecca Scowen at IC Resources.
