We are seeking an experienced Rolling Stock Fitter to join our engineering team based in Ipswich. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled rolling stock, locomotive, rail vehicle, heavy plant, HGV, military vehicle or mechanical maintenance professional looking to develop their career within a safety-critical rail environment.
The Role
As a Rolling Stock Fitter, you will be responsible for the servicing, maintenance, fault finding and repair of locomotives, components and associated equipment. Working as part of a dedicated engineering team, you will help ensure the fleet remains safe, reliable and available for operational service.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out maintenance, servicing and repairs on locomotives in accordance with approved maintenance plans.
- Diagnose faults and undertake effective rectification activities.
- Ensure all work is completed to engineering standards and railway safety requirements.
- Complete examination, maintenance and repair documentation accurately and on time.
- Record materials and components used during maintenance activities.
- Repair, test and commission plant and equipment as required.
- Support the maintenance of vehicle history and maintenance records.
- Assist Team Leaders and Supervisors during maintenance and repair activities.
- Attend safety, quality and technical briefings.
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping within workshop and depot facilities.
- Participate in training, competency assessments and continuous professional development activities.
- Comply with all health, safety and environmental policies, procedures and standards.
About You
We're looking for someone who is safety-focused, mechanically minded and passionate about engineering excellence.
Essential Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years' experience in traction and rolling stock maintenance, repair and fault finding, or equivalent heavy engineering experience.
- Strong mechanical fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to make sound engineering decisions in a safety-critical environment.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Commitment to maintaining high standards of safety and quality.
Desirable
- Experience working on locomotives, rolling stock or rail vehicles.
- Competence in carriage and wagon examination and maintenance.
- Knowledge of railway engineering standards and maintenance procedures.
