The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Training & Competency Advisor to join a major UK energy operation based at Barrow-in-Furness Gas Terminal. This is an excellent long-term opportunity to play a key role in developing, maintaining, and assuring training and competency frameworks across both onshore and offshore operations.
Working closely with operational teams and key stakeholders, you will ensure training and competence arrangements meet legislative requirements, company standards, and industry best practice while supporting the safe and efficient operation of critical energy assets.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage training and competence frameworks across operated assets.
* Maintain competency registers, job profiles, and training records.
* Support competence assurance programmes for safety-critical and operational roles.
* Develop and maintain training standards, procedures, and systems.
* Manage Learning & Competence Management Systems and produce performance reports.
* Act as Contract Owner for third-party training providers.
* Support audits, inspections, and regulatory compliance activities.
* Monitor training budgets and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
* Work with operational teams to ensure compliance with Safety Case and competence requirements.
* Provide support for apprenticeship and workforce competency development.
Requirements
* Several years' experience in Training & Competency Management within the upstream oil & gas industry.
* Strong understanding of UK training and competence legislation and regulatory requirements.
* Experience using Learning & Competence Management Systems.
* Knowledge of Safety Case requirements and competence assurance frameworks.
* Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and organisational skills.
* Production Operations background preferred.
* Offshore BOSIET and Offshore Medical are advantageous.
* Willingness to travel offshore as required.
