About the role
Ready for a role where you can make a genuine difference every day? We’re looking for a dedicated and resilient male Support Worker to join our team in Northbourne, supporting a young man with complex needs to build confidence, develop independence, and enjoy a more active and meaningful life within his community.
This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about person-centered care, building positive relationships, and helping an individual reach their full potential through engaging support and community involvement.
Due to the needs of these people we support, we can only consider applications from male candidates for this post, with experience with Autism or Complex Care, supporting people on a 2:1 basis.
Please note: Autism Unlimited does not provide visa sponsorship.
The role
You will be supporting Mikey, a 29-year-old man who lives independently in his own home in Northbourne. Mikey has limited verbal communication and expresses himself using a combination of PECS cards, choice boards, body language, and short phrases, so building a strong understanding of his communication style is a key part of the role.
Mikey enjoys an active and repetitive lifestyle, and his support team plays an important role in helping him access the things he loves, including:
* Going out for meals — especially Fish & Chips or a trip to the local Harvester
* Listening to music
* Having a kick-about playing football
* Spending time outdoors and enjoying walks around Badbury Rings and Kingston Lacy
Mikey receives dedicated 2:1 support and 24/7 care from a consistent and supportive team. As part of the role, you will provide assistance with personal care, meal preparation, and medication administration three times a day, while also encouraging choice, participation, and independence in everyday life.
Consistency, structure, and positive boundaries are essential in helping Mikey feel safe, supported, and confident. This is a highly rewarding opportunity to build a meaningful connection and make a lasting difference to someone’s quality of life every single day.

This role would include alternate weekends and sleep ins (sleep ins come with an additional payment)
A Support Workers day would include:
* Sharing your skills and life knowledge with the people we support to enable good life skills and independence when living in the community
* Maintaining consistent and accurate records regarding care plans, finances, appointments and medication
* Following the support plan in plan for each person we support to enable the person to feel comfortable and happy, adapting this as required based on change in behaviour
