About the role
We are looking for an experienced Vehicle Mechanic or Automotive Technician to join our engineering team at Stewarts of Tayside Ltd. This role is ideal for someone looking to move away from dealership targets and into a varied position maintaining our fleet of cars, vans, minibuses, trailers, forklifts and other company equipment. No previous agricultural experience is required - if you're a good mechanic, we'll help you learn the rest. The role is focused on ensuring high vehicle availability, reliability, and safety, while also supporting workshop equipment and wider site assets when required.
Key Responsibilities
Servicing and repairing company cars, vans and minibuses
Maintaining trailers and carrying out safety inspections
Diagnosing mechanical faults
Brakes, steering and suspension repairs
Welding and fabrication repairs where required
Preventative maintenance and inspections
Supporting maintenance of forklifts and other site equipment
Working alongside our engineering team to maintain a wide variety of vehicles and machinery
Ensure all work is completed to a high standard of safety and quality
Accurately complete maintenance records and documentation
Role Requirements
Experience as a Vehicle Mechanic or Automotive Technician
Experience servicing and repairing cars and light commercial vehicles
Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills
Able to work independently and as part of a team
Proactive, hands-on, and solutions-focused
Full UK driving licence
Desirable Skills & Experience
Completed a recognised apprenticeship in automotive, plant, or agricultural engineering
MOT Tester qualification
Experience using dealer diagnostic equipment
Trailer maintenance experience
Welding and fabrication (MIG desirable)
Hydraulic systems knowledge
Forklift, plant or agricultural machinery experience
Working Hours & Overtime
45-hour week, predominantly Monday to Friday day shifts, with a rotating shift pattern where required
Regular overtime available
Weekend work will form part of a rota as the team develops
This is a hands-on role where a flexible approach is required, occasional additional hours may be required during breakdowns or peak operational periods
Salary
Competitive salary - dependent on experience
