Employment and Financial Support Officer

Location: London - 3 days in the office, 2 days remote

Rate: £22 per hour (PAYE) / £27.46 per hour (Umbrella)

Contract: 3 Months

Job Purpose

To provide employment and training, welfare benefits, grants, debt, and budgeting support services for households living in the borough and those placed in temporary accommodation outside the area.

You will identify, contact, and support residents facing financial difficulty or seeking employment, helping them understand their options and pursue the most suitable outcomes.

The role involves working closely with internal departments, external partners, and agencies to develop support pathways, advocate for residents, and assist them in accessing additional services such as housing or health.

You will deliver one-to-one support, offering Information, Advice, and Guidance to improve residents’ financial resilience and/or support them into employment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of residents, supporting them with employment, training, welfare benefits, grants, debt, and budgeting.
  • Stay up to date with employability trends, legislation, and welfare benefit regulations.
  • Assess individual needs and develop tailored action plans, reviewing progress regularly.
  • Prepare income and expenditure analyses and create personal budgeting/payment plans.
  • Provide one-to-one support with job searching, applications, CV writing, cover letters, and interview preparation.
  • Assist residents with welfare benefit applications, correspondence, backdated claims, and Discretionary Housing Payments.
  • Build strong relationships with internal teams and external agencies, making referrals and tracking outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate records of all interactions and produce monthly performance reports.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and stakeholders to achieve service objectives.
  • Monitor resident engagement and follow up where necessary.
  • Attend internal and external meetings as required.
  • Support residents with “better off” calculations and notify relevant departments of changes in circumstances.
  • Prepare reports, maintain confidential records, and provide statistical data.
  • Ensure compliance with policies including Equal Opportunities and Safeguarding.
  • Undertake additional duties as required, including occasional evening or weekend work.


Qualifications

  • Educated to A-Level standard or equivalent (Essential)


Skills, Experience & Attributes

  • Strong numerical, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Administrative experience including database management, reporting, and correspondence.
  • Experience working with multi-disciplinary teams and external agencies.
  • Knowledge of employment barriers and support services for diverse communities.
  • Understanding of welfare benefits and income maximization.
  • Experience managing a caseload and providing practical client support.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective professional relationships.
  • Strong IT skills, including database management.
  • Ability to assess needs and develop effective action plans.
  • Coaching and motivational skills to support behavior change.
  • Ability to provide advice and guidance and build local networks.
