About the role
Teacher of Mathematics
Applications are invited for the post of teacher of mathematics which has become available upon the retirement of the current incumbent. The successful candidate will be a graduate with a proven track record of excellent teaching, an inclusive approach and commitment to fostering a love of learning in all pupils. In addition to bringing ambition and vision for the learning and teaching of mathematics, the teacher of mathematics will be ready to contribute with enthusiasm to the wider life of the school.
The department is lively and thriving. National 5 and Higher qualifications are offered in both mathematics and applications of mathematics. Advanced Higher courses are offered in mathematics, mathematics of mechanics and statistics. Results in SQA examinations have been very strong over a number of years attesting to the department’s high standards and innovative practice. St Margaret’s pupils regularly go on to study STEM subjects at university.
Candidates should be GTCS registered or eligible for registration. Candidates should be GTCS registered or eligible for registration. St Margaret’s School places safeguarding of its pupils as its highest priority and the successful applicant will be subject to appropriate qualification and registration checks. All employees at St Margaret’s are required to be a member of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups scheme.
Shortlisted candidates will be asked to teach a lesson, which will be observed.

Teaching Role
To prepare and maintain schemes of work.
To prepare pupils for internal and external assessment.
To mark and moderate pupils' work.
To provide a stimulating learning environment for pupils.
To write reports.
To maintain pupils' records.
To provide consultation for pupils and their parents.
To participate in the school’s professional learning programme.
To develop and implement teaching and learning strategies in line with school policy.
To cover for colleagues as required.
To attend parents’ evenings.
To take part in school open days.
To contribute to the positive ethos and extra-curricular life of St Margaret’s School.

St Margaret’s operates its own salary scale and the successful candidate will be remunerated at the appropriate point. Subject to satisfying eligibility criteria, the successful applicant will be automatically enrolled into the STPS with the right to opt out; the candidate will have the alternative option of joining the school's DC arrangement.
