Overview
We are seeking an experienced Contracts Manager to join our team on a permanent basis, responsible for the management and delivery of multiple public sector construction projects. This role requires a proactive professional with strong public sector experience, capable of overseeing projects from pre‑construction through to completion while ensuring excellence in safety, quality, programme, and commercial performance.
Key Responsibilities
Take responsibility for the end‑to‑end delivery of multiple public sector projects, ensuring safety, programme, quality, and commercial objectives are achieved
Lead pre‑construction and programming activities, including planning, sequencing, and resource coordination
Oversee and coordinate project teams, including site managers and subcontractors, ensuring effective collaboration and delivery
Act as a key point of contact for clients, fostering strong working relationships and maintaining clear, consistent communication throughout the project lifecycle
Monitor progress across multiple live projects, addressing risks, variations, and programme challenges proactively
Maintain contractual compliance in line with public sector frameworks, procedures, and governance requirements
Support the development, performance, and ongoing capability of operational staff and site teams
Conduct regular site visits to monitor performance, quality standards, and health & safety compliance
Manage commercial elements including contracts, valuations, variations, and final accounts
Work closely with internal teams, consultants, and stakeholders to ensure successful outcomes across all projects
Skills & Experience Required
Proven experience in a Contracts Manager or similar senior delivery role
Strong public sector construction background (e.g. education, healthcare, local authority, or framework projects)
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Solid understanding of construction contracts (e.g. JCT)
Strong skills in programming, pre‑construction planning, and project coordination
Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management capabilities
Organised, solutions‑focused, and commercially aware
Desirable
Experience working within public sector frameworks
Construction, commercial, or project management qualification
A collaborative leadership style with strong mentoring skills
