About the role

Plenty of consultancies talk about low carbon design. Far fewer build their whole approach around it. If you want your mechanical designs to actually cut the energy a building uses, rather than tick a box at the end, this is worth a look. This is a design led building services consultancy with a strong sustainability and building physics core, growing its presence in the Cambridge area. You would come in as a senior mechanical engineer, leading designs on low carbon commercial, education and residential schemes, and working closely with building physics specialists who model performance from the very first concept. The work rewards engineers who care about the detail. You would size and specify systems, carry the design through to delivery, guide junior engineers and have a real say in how each project is approached. Because the practice is design focused rather than volume driven, quality is the currency and your ideas actually get heard. You would join a firm that puts genuine weight behind development: structured training, regular CPD, support through to chartered status, hybrid working for everyone and a benefits package with private healthcare and a solid holiday allowance. This is a place to build a career, not simply bill hours.Salary is between £45,000 and £58,000.If low carbon mechanical design is where you want to be, send your CV across. If you've read this far and you're still unsure and would prefer a detailed market insight including salary bands and market trends - then check out our free guide here: https://www.responsumltd.com/uk-salary-guide-2026
