Band 7 | 1.0 WTE | 36 hours
£52,845 - £61,466 (including weekend, evenings, on‑call and public holidays commitment)
Location: NHS Lothian Pharmacy & Medicines Service, Royal Infirmary Edinburgh
Join our dedicated Pharmacy & Medicines team and play a key role in delivering high‑quality service to patients in NHS Lothian. We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic pharmacist to contribute to clinical pharmacy service delivery across surgical specialities and the aseptic unit based at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.
About the Role
This is an exciting and rewarding opportunity to join a passionate team of pharmacists delivering specialist clinical pharmacy services across a diverse range of surgical specialities, including General Surgery, Critical Care, Orthopaedics and Reproductive Medicine. In this role, you will help shape the service and have the unique opportunity to deputise for the aseptic services manager, gaining valuable leadership experience within technical services. You will be supported to grow and thrive with opportunities to deepen specialist knowledge while developing key skills in service innovation, staff leadership, education and training.

About You
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic pharmacist with a passion for delivering exceptional clinical care.
Essential Qualifications and Experience
- A Master of Pharmacy Degree (or equivalent).
- Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
- Completed training or equivalent competence mapped to RPS Post‑Registration Foundation Pharmacist Curriculum.
Skills and Attributes
- Experience in proactively influencing prescribing, using clinical knowledge to optimise patient care.
- A strong patient‑focused approach, with the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Excellent communication and problem‑solving skills, enabling effective decision‑making in a surgical setting.
- A proactive attitude, with a commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
- Support and develop other members of the pharmacy team.
Additional Information
As from 1st April 2026, the Agenda for Change full‑time working week will be reducing from 37 to 36 hours per week. Part‑time hours will be reduced pro‑rated, and there will be a corresponding increase in the hourly rate so that pay will not be affected.

This post requires the post holder to have a PVG Scheme membership/record. If the post holder is not a current PVG member for the required regulatory group (i.e. child and/or adult) then an application will need to be made to Disclosure Scotland and deemed satisfactory before they can begin in post.

If the post is assessed as a regulated role, your appointment will be subject to joining the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme.
