Turfgrass Trials Officer
We’re recruiting for a Turfgrass Trials Officer to join a specialist research and consultancy organisation working on commercial product trials and turfgrass research.
This is a hands-on role suited to someone with an interest in turfgrass, sports surfaces, horticulture, agriculture, plant science or applied science. You’ll be involved in setting up and managing trials, collecting and analysing data, assessing results and producing reports for commercial clients.
The Role
You’ll be responsible for the practical delivery of a range of commercial trials and related research projects, working both independently and as part of a wider research team.
Your responsibilities will include:
Designing, coordinating and completing commercial trials and research projects.
Managing the practical day-to-day requirements of trial work.
Preparing trial plans, drawings and management regimes.
Applying products and carrying out assessments in accordance with agreed procedures.
Collecting, recording and analysing trial data.
Producing accurate and detailed reports for clients.
Maintaining records relating to pesticides and active substances and ensuring work complies with relevant regulations.
Supporting the preparation and setup of new trials.
Carrying out basic diagnosis of turfgrass pests and diseases.
Checking, calibrating and maintaining equipment.
Managing stock and ordering laboratory and trial equipment.
Working to established SOPs and documented working practices.
The role is primarily based at the organisation's head office, but will also involve off-site trial work, occasional travel and some non-standard hours or weekend work when required.
About You
We’re looking for someone with a genuine interest in turfgrass and applied research who enjoys practical, hands-on work.
You may have a degree in science, sports science, engineering, horticulture, agriculture or a related subject, although relevant practical experience and enthusiasm will also be considered.
You’ll ideally have:
An interest or experience in turfgrass, sports surfaces, horticulture, agriculture or a related field.
Knowledge of pesticides, weeds, grasses, pests and diseases, or the enthusiasm to develop this knowledge.
An understanding of turf management practices.
Good IT skills, including Word, Excel, databases and PowerPoint.
Strong communication and organisational skills.
Good attention to detail when recording and analysing data.
The ability to manage your own workload and work on your own initiative.
A genuine interest in sport, particularly sports such as football, rugby or golf.
A full UK driving licence.
An NPTC PA1/PA6 spraying qualification would be advantageous, although training can be provided.

Salary: Dependent on experience
Hours: Monday to Friday, 08:45–17:00
