Accounts Assistant - Accountancy Practice

- Reporting to: Accounts Manager
Overview
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Accounts Assistant to join our growing practice. This role is ideal for someone who is AAT Level 3 qualified (or equivalent) and looking to build on their experience within an accountancy practice.
You will gain hands-on exposure across accounts preparation, VAT, and basic tax compliance, with structured support to progress through AAT Level 4.

Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the preparation of year-end accounts for sole traders, partnerships, and limited companies
- Support the preparation and submission of VAT returns
- Assist with management accounts and periodic reporting
- Provide support on corporation tax computations (under supervision)
- Assist with basic personal tax returns
- Maintain accurate client records and working papers
- Liaise with clients to request information and respond to routine queries
- Support senior team members in meeting deadlines
- Collaborate effectively with colleagues across the practice
Experience & Skills
- AAT Level 3 qualified (or equivalent)
- Previous experience in an accountancy practice (preferred but not essential)
- Basic understanding of accounts preparation and VAT
- Exposure to cloud accounting software (e.G. Xero, QuickBooks, Sage)
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
- Eagerness to learn and progress professionally
- Ability to work to deadlines in a structured environment
