Accounts Assistant - Accountancy Practice

Overview

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Accounts Assistant to join our growing practice. This role is ideal for someone who is AAT Level 3 qualified (or equivalent) and looking to build on their experience within an accountancy practice.

You will gain hands-on exposure across accounts preparation, VAT, and basic tax compliance, with structured support to progress through AAT Level 4.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with the preparation of year-end accounts for sole traders, partnerships, and limited companies
• Support the preparation and submission of VAT returns
• Assist with management accounts and periodic reporting
• Provide support on corporation tax computations (under supervision)
• Assist with basic personal tax returns
• Maintain accurate client records and working papers
• Liaise with clients to request information and respond to routine queries
• Support senior team members in meeting deadlines
• Collaborate effectively with colleagues across the practice

Experience & Skills

• AAT Level 3 qualified (or equivalent)
• Previous experience in an accountancy practice (preferred but not essential)
• Basic understanding of accounts preparation and VAT
• Exposure to cloud accounting software (e.G. Xero, QuickBooks, Sage)
• Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
• Eagerness to learn and progress professionally
• Ability to work to deadlines in a structured environment
