Design Project Manager

Location: London | Manchester

Salary: Up to £80,000 + benefits

Turner Lovell is recruiting a Design Project Manager for a leading UK engineering and infrastructure contractor delivering power transmission, distribution, grid connection, and renewable energy projects across the UK.

This role focuses on coordinating multidisciplinary design delivery across complex infrastructure projects from pre-construction through to construction support. Initially, you'll support HV cable infrastructure and grid connection projects, with the opportunity to become involved in substation schemes as the project portfolio continues to expand.

Working closely with Engineering, Construction, Commercial, and Project Delivery teams, you'll ensure design solutions are technically compliant, practical to construct, and delivered in line with client requirements, programme, and industry standards.

Key Responsibilities:

• Coordinate and manage multidisciplinary design activities across HV cable, substation, and renewable energy infrastructure projects from pre-construction through to construction support.
• Manage design programmes, deliverables, and project priorities across multiple live projects.
• Coordinate Electrical, Civil, and Mechanical engineering teams, together with external consultants and subcontractors.
• Act as the primary design interface between clients, contractors, consultants, and internal project teams.
• Lead design review meetings and coordinate technical interfaces between engineering, commercial, and construction teams.
• Ensure designs comply with client requirements, CDM 2015, industry standards, and internal design governance.
• Support tender submissions, Design Execution Plans, Design Management Plans, and other pre-construction activities.
• Work closely with site teams to ensure designs are practical, buildable, and aligned with construction methodologies.

Required Qualifications & Experience:

• Degree qualified in Electrical, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).
• Minimum 6 years experience within the power or utilities sector, with proven experience coordinating design delivery across multidisciplinary engineering projects.
• Strong understanding of HV cable infrastructure, with exposure to substation or grid connection projects within the transmission or distribution sector.
• Strong stakeholder management skills, with experience working alongside clients, contractors, consultants, and multidisciplinary project teams.
• Good understanding of construction methodologies and the interface between engineering design and site delivery.
• Commercial awareness and an understanding of project delivery throughout the design lifecycle.
• Chartered Engineer status, or working towards professional registration, would be advantageous.
• Experience working within a Principal Contractor or EPC environment would be beneficial.
• Full UK Driving Licence and willingness to travel to project sites as required.
