Senior Finance Systems Developer (Permanent)
Location: Edinburgh
Salary: £47,680 - £59,600 (competitive based on experience)

We are looking for a Senior Finance Systems Developer to join our Finance department on a permanent basis. This is a crucial role within our Finance Data Management team, where you’ll shape and develop high‑quality BI solutions that support critical financial reporting across the business. As our senior Cognos SME, you’ll lead the technical direction of the Cognos BI estate, driving innovation, performance and trusted insight. Key Responsibilities
- Own the end‑to‑end Cognos BI development lifecycle, ensuring delivery aligns with Finance and IT standards
- Act as the Cognos subject matter expert, championing best practice, innovation and finance‑wide adoption
- Design and deliver robust, high‑quality BI solutions that meet complex finance and regulatory requirements
- Proactively improve performance and stability of existing BI solutions using audit data and analysis
- Lead on Cognos installations, upgrades and technical change, working closely with vendors and IT teams
- Ensure strong risk management and compliance with SOx, security, data protection and GDPR requirements
- Coach and support colleagues, sharing expertise and raising capability across the team
Qualifications
- Exceptional hands‑on experience as a Cognos BI SME, with deep technical expertise across the Cognos suite
- Proven experience translating complex business requirements into effective BI and data solutions
- Strong data analysis and multidimensional modelling capability within a data warehouse environment
- Significant experience operating in a senior BI developer role, ideally within financial services
- Solid understanding of BI standards, governance and best practice, with experience embedding them in teams
- Confident communicator with the ability to influence stakeholders
- Experience working with change, release and project management methodologies
- Evidence of ongoing professional development, such as Cognos BI certification or equivalent experience
