The Transmission & Distribution (T&D) Engineering team provides services from initial concept through Power Systems Analysis, Cabling, Substations, Transmission and Distribution Infrastructure, System Balancing, Compensation, Protection Systems, SCADA, Communications, Converter Station Design, HVDC Systems and Interconnectors. Your role involves working on the UK’s most groundbreaking T&D project – National Grid's Great Grid Upgrade, part of a £9bn partnership to connect clean energy to homes and businesses across England and Wales by 2030.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical support and design for overhead transmission lines up to 400kV.
- Work on complex multi‑discipline projects and large programmes such as GGP.
- Support proposal writing and outline all project details, including timeline, resources, budget, objectives and goals.
- Deliver project implementation support, statutory planning and public consultation participation.
- Lead design activities: PLS‑CADD modelling, line routing, structural analysis, loading trees, design criteria formulation, sag‑tension calculations, insulator/conductor selection, clearance reports and structural spotting.
- Conduct feasibility studies, conductor thermal rating analysis and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
- Identify technically preferred solutions/lay‑outs to present to clients.
- Check engineering deliverables such as designs, reports, proposals, presentations and drawing packages.
- Perform internal quality checks of engineering drawings and calculations.
Qualifications
- Professionally qualified CEng (Chartered Engineer) with a recognised electrical engineering institution (e.g., IET).
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent technical discipline (electrical or power engineering).
- Experience delivering projects for transmission system operators such as National Grid, SSE and SPT, aligned with each operator’s standards.
- Project experience in overhead line engineering up to 400kV.
- Proven client relationship management and business development skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
