KS3 English Teacher (SEN Autism Provision) Location: Bolton Contract: Full-time, Permanent Salary: £33,483 to £45,352 Are you a passionate English specialist with experience supporting autistic pupils? About the Role We are seeking a KS3 English Teacher to deliver engaging, accessible and well?adapted English Language and Literature lessons to pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and associated needs.
You will work in small classes, using evidence?based approaches to support communication, emotional regulation, independence and wellbeing.
You will play a key role in shaping an ambitious, well?sequenced curriculum that meets pupils individual needs while promoting confidence, progress and a love of learning.
Key Responsibilities Plan, deliver and assess high?quality, adapted English lessons for KS3 pupils.
Use autism?informed strategies including visual supports, structured teaching, predictable routines and sensory/regulation approaches.
Create a calm, supportive and structured learning environment.
Ensure learning is accessible, engaging, relevant and appropriately challenging.
Track progress in both subject learning and EHCP outcomes, providing clear feedback to pupils and families.
Support pupils communication, emotional regulation, independence and engagement in school life.
Implement positive behaviour and regulation strategies aligned with an autism?informed approach.
Contribute to annual reviews, reports, target setting and multi?disciplinary planning.
Work collaboratively with teaching assistants, therapists, pastoral staff and wider teams.
Contribute to curriculum development, resource creation, assessment approaches and moderation.
Engage fully in CPD, reflective practice and ongoing training related to autism and SEND.
Uphold safeguarding, school policies and the Teachers Standards.
Essential Criteria Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
Strong subject knowledge in English Language/Literature.
Experience teaching KS3 pupils.
Significant experience supporting pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ideally in a specialist or SEND setting.
Strong understanding of autism, sensory needs, communication differences, adaptive teaching and EHCP?led provision.
Ability to create a structured, supportive learning environment and make subject content accessible to a wide range of needs.
Confident using positive, autism?informed behaviour and regulation strategies.
Effective team worker within a multidisciplinary environment.
Desirable Criteria Experience in a specialist SEN or autism provision.
Experience adapting curriculum content for pupils working below age?related expectations.
Additional SEND or autism?specific training.
Experience working with non?speaking or minimally speaking pupils.
Experience contributing to subject leadership or curriculum development.
