- Automation & Controls Bridgwater | £45,000 bonus scheme | 37 per week, flexible working hours Introduction Acorn by Synergie is recruiting a Project Engineer specialising in Automation and Controls to join a dynamic manufacturing environment.
This hands-on role combines project engineering, process improvement, and industrial control systems expertise to drive operational excellence.
You will work closely with the Engineering Projects Lead and Technical Engineering team to support and enhance automated equipment, lead automation projects, and optimise production systems.
Key Responsibilities Act as the go-to expert for Industrial Control Systems (ICS), Automation, and Operational Technology on site.
Support, troubleshoot, and enhance existing automated, PLC-based, and data acquisition equipment, collaborating with automation partners and colleagues.
Lead delivery of Automation / Operational Technology projects from concept, specification, commissioning, validation, and production support.
Develop and maintain all necessary project documentation.
Analyse and improve manufacturing processes to increase efficiency, quality, and safety.
Ensure all work complies with safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
Collaborate with maintenance and production teams to integrate control system hardware and software.
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and operational efficiency.
Requirements HNC / HND in Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent.
Experience in automation and manufacturing environments, including process improvement.
Proficient in PLC & HMI programming (Siemens, Mitsubishi, etc.).
Experience with industrial robotics integration (ABB, Kawasaki, etc.) preferred.
Experience with control panel wiring and devices.
Knowledge of OEE and data acquisition monitoring systems.
Understanding of CNC machines and machining centres (operation, not programming).
Proficient with CAD software (Autodesk, SolidWorks).
Strong problem-solving, analytical, and stakeholder management skills.
Ability to interpret mechanical and electrical drawings.
Project planning experience with the ability to meet deadlines.
Strong technical writing and documentation skills.
Safety-first attitude and understanding of machinery safety standards (including EN 13849).
Personal Attributes Hands-on and proactive approach.
Strong communicator able to work independently and collaboratively.
Detail-oriented with excellent organisational skills.
Enthusiastic about continuous improvement and operational efficiency.
