About the role
SEN Teaching Assistant – Ynysybwl, Rhondda Cynon Taf
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to work in a special educational needs (SEN) school in the South East Wales region. This role is suitable for individuals with experience in supporting learners with a range of additional needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), Global Delay Disorder and challenging behaviour.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of three months' experience working with children in schools, nurseries, or childcare settings, with a keen understanding of SEN requirements. Registration with the Education Workforce Council (EWC) is essential, and an enhanced DBS check on the update service or willingness to obtain one is required. Candidates should possess strong behaviour management skills and be committed to supporting inclusive learning environments.
Key responsibilities include:
* Supporting and supervising pupils with additional needs, including ASD, PDA, PMLD, Global Delay and challenging behaviour
* Assisting in preparing classrooms for lessons and classroom activities
* Working with learners either 1:1 or in small groups
* Supporting staff with lesson delivery and classroom organisation
* Engaging pupils during break times and assisting with lunch
* Promoting positive behaviour in line with the school's policies
* Contributing to a safe and nurturing environment to underpin effective learning
