The role & about the client:
ITS Building People are recruiting on behalf of a successful and well-established contractor with an excellent reputation for delivering high-quality residential and commercial construction projects. This contractor partners with private developers, housing associations, local authorities, and commercial clients. They are now seeking a motivated and detail-focused Assistant Buyer to join their team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with strong procurement and supply chain experience, playing a key role in supporting the buying function to ensure materials and subcontractors are sourced efficiently and cost-effectively.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Support the buying team in sourcing materials, plant, and subcontractors across multiple projects
Prepare and issue enquiries to suppliers and subcontractors
Analyse quotations and assist in negotiating pricing and terms
Raise purchase orders and maintain accurate procurement records
Liaise with site teams, project managers, and commercial teams to confirm material and resource requirements
Track deliveries and resolve any supply chain issues or delays
Maintain and develop relationships with suppliers and subcontractors
Assist in maintaining approved supplier lists and monitoring performance
Support with cost comparisons and value engineering initiatives
Ensure procurement activity aligns with project programmes and budgets The ideal candidate will have/be:
Previous experience in an Assistant Buyer, Buyer, or procurement support role within construction
Strong background in residential and/or commercial construction
Good understanding of the procurement process, materials, and subcontractor packages
Confident communicator with strong negotiation skills
Highly organised, methodical, and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Strong numerical and analytical skills, with high attention to detail
Competent IT skills (Excel, procurement software, and document management systems)
A full UK driving licence (desirable) How to apply:
