About the role
Broking Director
We’re looking for a Broking Director at Liberty Blume in London, United Kingdom to lead and oversee the operations of the insurance brokerage firm, driving strategic growth while ensuring compliance with industry regulations.
The role combines technical broking leadership, market placement expertise and team management, requiring deep experience in the London and Lloyd’s markets, strong underwriter relationships and a proven track record of placing large and complex insurance programmes.
You will be responsible for designing, implementing, and managing the global insurance programme for Liberty Global. This role ensures that the organisation’s risk exposures are appropriately identified, evaluated, and mitigated through effective insurance solutions across all regions of operation. You will work closely with internal stakeholders, clients, and insurers to deliver cost-effective coverage while maintaining compliance with local regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Leadership & Management: Lead and manage the broking team; oversee daily operations; provide technical oversight on complex placements; foster a positive work environment; develop junior brokers; support transition to a technology-enabled platform.
- Market Leadership: Act as senior market-facing broker; maintain relationships with insurers, reinsurers, and syndicates; optimise programme structures.
- Business Development: Develop and implement strategies to attract new clients; pursue business opportunities; build relationships; analyse market trends.
- Global Insurance Programme Management: Develop, implement, and improve the global strategy; oversee placement and renewal of all policies; ensure consistency in coverage.
- Risk Assessment & Mitigation: Oversee risk management practices; identify insurable risks; partner with Risk, Legal, Finance, and Operations teams; analyse claims data.
- Broker & Insurer Relationship Management: Build and maintain relationships; lead negotiations; coordinate programmes; oversee client accounts; resolve disputes.
- Claims Management: Oversee claims processes; collaborate on complex claims; monitor performance; identify cost-reduction opportunities.
- Compliance & Governance: Operate to highest standards of corporate governance; comply with regulations; maintain documentation; support audits.
- Financial Oversight: Manage budgets, premiums, allocation; forecast and report; optimise costs; monitor KPIs; analyse financial data.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Act as primary point of contact; provide guidance; present updates and risk insights.
- Captive & Alternative Risk Solutions: Support development of risk financing structures; structure programmes to allow participation; manage captive strategy.
- Team Development: Recruit, train, evaluate staff; promote continuous learning.
Qualifications & Experience
- Professional certifications (e.g., ACII, CPCU, ARM) preferred.
- Relevant years of experience in corporate insurance, risk management, or brokerage.
- Proven experience placing large and complex programmes, including multinational structures.
- Strong experience in London insurance market and Lloyd’s of London; established underwriter relationships.
- Strong network of insurer and underwriter relationships across the London market.
- Strong understanding of global insurance markets and regulatory environments.
- Exposure to captive structures or alternative risk financing solutions highly desirable.
