THE BUSINESS
Based in Aberdeen, our client is an established engineering business specialising in the reverse engineering, refurbishment, servicing, repair and overhaul of rotating equipment, particularly pumps. The business supports customers across a range of industrial sectors and works with a varied range of equipment.
THE ROLE
This role requires an experienced mechanical engineer with a strong background in centrifugal pumps or comparable rotating equipment. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute established practical workshop expertise.

• Measure components accurately and work to tight engineering tolerances
• Carry out balancing of rotating components
• Undertake hydraulic dressing and profiling of rotating components
• Build pumps and complete associated fitting and assembly work
• Troubleshoot equipment faults, identify causes and determine appropriate repair solutions
• Prepare clear and accurate service, inspection and technical reports
• Work to agreed deadlines while maintaining high standards of workmanship, safety and quality
THE PERSON
The client is looking for an experienced, hands-on engineer who can bring established rotating equipment knowledge to the workshop. This is not an entry-level or trainee position.
• Completed a recognised four-year mechanical apprenticeship; an apprenticeship specialising in rotating equipment is strongly preferred
• Several years’ practical experience working with centrifugal pumps
• Hands-on experience stripping, inspecting, measuring, repairing and rebuilding pumps
• Confident measuring components and working to tight engineering tolerances
• Practical experience of balancing, hydraulic dressing and profiling rotating components
• Able to troubleshoot faults and identify the cause of mechanical and performance issues
• Experience compiling service, inspection or repair reports
• Candidates from the turbine industry will also be considered where they can demonstrate comparable rotating equipment skills and experience
• Able to work effectively within a workshop team and contribute with minimal day-to-day supervision
• Reliable, quality-focused and committed to safe working practices
IMPORTANT – RELEVANT EXPERIENCE
Applicants must be able to demonstrate direct, hands-on experience with centrifugal pumps or closely related rotating equipment. Experience limited to drilling operations, pipe fitting, hydraulic pipework or valve technician work will not meet the requirements unless accompanied by the specific pump or rotating equipment experience outlined above.
