Our client is seeking a Head of Legal to join their in house legal function, the successful candidate will oversee all legal operations, ensuring compliance with industry regulations while providing expert legal counsel. This role is pivotal to supporting the business objectives of a leading insurance provider.

Description
- Providing day to day legal advice and support in relation to strategy, new business ventures and contract queries, applying commercial and operational thinking & knowledge holistically.
- Supporting day to day management of legal issues in relation to commercial and operational matters.
- Using judgement & experience to give specialist advice such as Data, Intellectual Property, & Litigation, on new & proposed legislation, regulation and guidance.
- Reviews the legal advice given on key business proposals and takes an oversight role of matters handled by the lawyers in the team, challenging where appropriate.
- Directly or through the wider team provide legal / regulatory & business matters arising, consistently delivering high quality work.
- Drafting, negotiation and advising in relation to associated high value contracts.
- Advising on acquisitions/disposals, joint ventures activity of all deal size.
- Lead a high-performance Legal team, part of the wider function that is recognised as forward thinking and class leading business advisory team, delivering strategic value to the organisation, providing management and coaching. Ensure team are agile & innovative in ways of working within the team and across all functions.
- Building and maintaining external relationships e. customers, licensees, licensors, suppliers and other stakeholders (including commercial managers, lawyers, account managers).
- Involvement in managing advice related to the Whole Business Securitisation and Alternative Business Funding.
- Involvement in providing advice in relation to the clients brand management.
- Advises on consumer facing regulations (ASA, ICO) - in the case of customer complaints and interpretation of advertisements.
- Supporting the development of day to day legal operations, best practice & efficiencies in the legal function.
- Ensuring that advice and support takes account, obtaining the maximum commercial advantage from its business relationships.
- Keeping ahead of all changes to law that affect the operations and advising on compliance with new and existing legislation.
- Providing ad hoc legal support to other areas of the business as and when required.
- Ensure the team works in a collaborative way across all areas of the business, recognised as approachable and inclusive.
- Monitoring and control of external legal providers to ensure cost effective provision.
General & Technical Experience
- Proven track record on giving expert legal advice in a highly commercial and pragmatic manner
- Proven experience in commercial contract drafting & negotiation at all levels.
- Proven ability to engage with stakeholders to successfully achieve outcomes.
- Experience and confidence in dealing with senior stakeholders up to and including the PLC Board
- A sound legal and working knowledge of the principles of contract and consumer law
- Experience in leading large-scale projects, including managing other business areas projects
- Experience of managing teams and running day to day operations
- You will play a full part in the work of the legal function and in particular in the management and development of the Legal Team including upskilling and running projects to support a more agile Legal Team. Collaboration is key.
Profile
- UK Qualified with a minimum of 8 years PQE
- Able to work and act on own initiative and be able to demonstrate an ability to respond positively to new challenges and to develop creative solutions to legal issues.
- Effective time management and prioritisation of work, as well as managing a workload and working effectively under pressure and to deadlines is critical.
- Proven ability to lead and manage legal teams effectively.
- Held a similar position previosuly is desirable
- A strategic mindset with the ability to align legal advice with business objectives.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
